FEAR-What’s it to you?

fearFear is often a paralyzing emotion. It’s that 4-letter F word that can leave you feeling completely scared and confused inside your own head. I read somewhere once that fear has two meanings. Forget Everything And Run, OR Face Everything And Rise.

I believe this is absolutely true. You have a choice, as always. When FEAR shows up, it feels very real. Your mind and body believe that you will die if you do that thing you are scared to do…or if you fail…or if someone rejects you. You tell yourself it’s impossible and you can’t do it. Your mind and body may want you to completely shut down and give up…or RUN for the hills! But when you let yourself give in to the fear and all the negative thoughts, emotions, people, and situations in your life take control; you give up your power to choose happiness for yourself.

But there’s also another option. You can choose to take a look at those FEARS, challenge them and create your own NEW reality. One where fear may still be present, but it’s not crippling you or your ability to live for your future. A reality that includes you realizing you have the power to solve your problems and make a choice to overcome every situation you face. Will you really die if you ask someone something you’re afraid they might say No to and they say No? Absolutely Not! A “No” is just a no…it doesn’t define you or decrease your self-worth.

I’ve said this before and I’ll keep saying it, life happens. It can be messy, emotional, and full of troubling situations. That won’t change. So, how can you change anything at all? Lots of times you can’t change or control what’s going on around you.

The good news is you CAN control you, your thoughts, your reactions, your dreams, and your reality. No one and nothing has the power to take that away from you unless YOU give it to them.

Instead of focusing on what you can’t control and all the negativity, focus on you. Your thoughts and your words have so much power in your life. I know for me once I start giving in to the negative emotions and fears that crop up in my life, they can easily take over! I have to keep paying attention to the dialogue that’s going on in my head and when I notice that the negative nellies are dragging me down the rabbit hole, I start visualizing solutions and opportunities to overcome and achieve more. I know that if I start creating possibilities, goals, and dreams in my mind, I can create an opening…a shift…and then I am back on the pathway to moving forward. It’s important for us to be able to tell ourselves that the roadblocks and problems that keep us fearful and feeling afraid to even have hope don’t really exist (except in our minds).

Every time your mind throws up a past roadblock with a memory or thought that makes you feel fearful and powerless to control your reality, just clear your mind. Take a deep breath and release that obstacle. Immediately visualize those awesome dreams and goals you have (and a couple of the next steps you can take to get there). See yourself following through the steps to make them a reality. Reprogram your brain to focus on you and what you CAN do, not live in fear of what you perceive might happen.

Tell yourself, “I am uniquely gifted to deal with any and every situation presented in my life. No one and nothing can control my being, my mind, my thoughts, and my reality. I will empower myself to reach for my goals and dreams. I will face everything and rise to my magnificence. I will be a beacon of light to those around me still living in the shadows of fear.”

Be Your Own Champion

championAs the leader of your own life, embrace the possibility of being bold, fearless, confident, and unapologetic in your relationships. KNOW your flaws and your strengths. And, realize how important it is to live life on your own terms, being present today and realizing that you are in charge of your life now.

Many of us go through life in a daze. We’re either reminiscing or ruminating about what has happened in the past; or, spending countless hours worrying about a future that doesn’t actually exist. We forget that we are in the driver’s seat of and fully responsible for our choices, even if they are influenced by others.

When we start letting go of the way things used to be or how life is “supposed” to be, we can head down a path of greater personal growth and develop closer connections to the people in our lives right now. However, as life is happening all around you, don’t let YOU get lost in the sea of demands from other people. We have opinions coming from all directions about WHO we are and HOW we do things. From spouses, kids, co-workers, employers, friends, parents, and in-laws etc., everyone has to give their opinion!

And, while these opinions may be well meaning, sometimes the opinions, words, and actions of others can drown out the messages of your own heart and intuition. You don’t have to listen to them and internalize their opinions. If you’re not living the life you want, it could be because your inner voice needs to be strengthened to better reflect what YOUR heart is saying. That’s the voice you want to hear—your true inner self.

To truly get to know yourself, get very still and allow your intuition to show up and be your guide. Find some time during your day to be alone, even if it’s just for 10 minutes. Maybe there is a park near work with some benches and a pond, or maybe you live near a nature area with a walking trail. Or perhaps you can just sit very quietly in a private space. Wherever you are, take a few moments to get quiet, center yourself, and turn off all the distractions going on around you. You may notice ongoing ramblings in your mind. That’s ok. Notice them and then shift your focus back inward. Don’t expect that your mind will go completely silent (I have yet to have that happen for me when I meditate).

Ask yourself what you want and need in your life and then just be still. Pay attention to what shows up. You may envision the life you want or perhaps something you weren’t expecting may show up, giving you something to think about. Repeat this process daily and the inner callings will become clearer. As you gain clarity, call on your inner courage to follow that dream and step into the life you want. Consider what you have determined as priorities and what has taken a backseat. Ask yourself how you can recalibrate your thoughts, feelings and actions to make your life into the one you desire.

If you are faithful to reminding yourself daily who you are and what you want, as others voice their opinions, you will intuitively be able to deal with them in a way that supports your life vision and your own choices. Every choice you make will have a purposeful direction. You won’t just be reacting to life. You will be directing your own future.

Don’t wait for other people to change your life for you. How your life unfolds isn’t up to anyone but you. Set goals around who you want to be and how you want to live your life. Take steps to achieve those goals. You can do it. You got this.

Refresh, Reboot, & Recharge for 2013!

Happy New Year!

As the New Year begins, we often have a tendency to reflect on the past year we have had and then decide how we would like our life to be for this next year! We all wish to live the life we really want. But it often seems that so few of us actually do. Why is that??

In theory, creating the life we want should be easy, but if it really were, everyone would be doing it! Sometimes we’re too busy working, paying bills or picking up kids to give it much thought. Sometimes we don’t know how to get clarity so we put it off until “later.” Or, perhaps, we have ignored what we really wanted and, instead, created a life that others wanted for us. For many, we may have given it some thought, but have no idea HOW to get the life we want, we don’t know the steps to take…or maybe we know the steps but get stuck in INACTION.
